WHAT IS CAN DO!?

Can Do! Education Foundation is a non-profit that partners with the Miller Creek School District. Our mission provides vital funds to the Miller Creek School District in order to bridge the financial gap between current state and local funding and the cost of an enriched, well-rounded education for all our students at all four district schools: Lucas Valley Elementary, Mary E. Silveira Elementary, Vallecito Elementary, and Miller Creek Middle School.

WHY DO PUBLIC SCHOOLS NEED FUNDRAISING?

School funding has changed since we were children. California’s educational funding has been drastically cut, and as a result, many of our quality programs that used to be part of the standard public school curriculum have been severely scaled back or discontinued altogether. State funding simply does not cover the real cost of a quality public education, so we look to parent and community support to fund programs that are considered to be integral to a well-rounded education. The state does mandate specific curriculum and instruction, yet it does not provide the necessary resources. We are fortunate to live in a community where the generous support of parents and local businesses enable Can Do! to close the gap and meet the children’s educational needs.

WHAT PROGRAMS DOES CAN DO! SUPPORT?

With your generous support, Can Do! is raising funds for the 2023-24 school year to fund 1:1 Technology, TK-5 Art Teachers, TK-5 PE Coaches, TK-2 Music & Movement Teachers, TK-8 School Garden Coordinators, TK-8 Counsleors, Middle School Wellness Coordinator, Teachers stipends for middle school lunchtime and after school academic, leadership, and special interest clubs, and after-school sports coaches, and more. All of these programs help give our students confidence and self-esteem, foster their creativity, find their passions, encourages mental and physical health, and provide them with a breadth of experience that taps each child’s talents.

HOW ARE CAN DO! FUNDS ALLOCATED TO EACH PROGRAM?

Can Do! and the Miller Creek School District decide each year together how much needs to be raised and where those funds will be allocated. To see exactly where your 2023-24 donation is making a difference, please visit our Impact page.

WHAT HAPPENS IF CAN DO! DOESN’T REACH ITS FUNDRAISING GOAL?

If we do not meet our annual goal, the Miller Creek School District may have to reduce or eliminate Can Do!-funded programs in current or future years, as there are no other sources for funding these programs. It is only by your generous support that we can assure that these essential programs and services continue to be provided for all of our students.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CAN DO! AND THE HOME AND SCHOOL CLUBS (HSC)?

Can Do! is focused on fundraising to bridge the gap between inadequate state funding and the cost of a well-rounded, enriched education.  HSC is focused on building community around our families and is the backbone of many campus activities and events. We partner together in many ways though to truly build community unity!

WHAT DOES CAN DO! NOT DO?

Can Do! does not make hiring decisions for ANY District employee nor make any program decisions whether funded by Can Do! or not. Those decisions are solely made by the District and Site Administrators. We do not control any curriculum, supplies, or other activity choices in any academic, elective, or enrichment programs.

HOW DO I GIVE?

There are many ways to give to Can Do!: Go to our secure donations page to donate online or send cash or a check to the Can Do! office. Whatever your comfort level, families are encouraged to give what they can. You can make a donation in full or in monthly payments. Every gift is important and greatly appreciated.

HOW MUCH SHOULD I GIVE?

The Can Do! Family Giving Campaign requests a donation of $750 per child. We seek 100% family participation therefore a contribution at any amount that is appropriate for your family is most important. Every child benefits so we need every family to participate! Please give as generously as you can and what works best for your family.

DO YOU OFFER A MONTHLY PAYMENT PLAN?

Yes! Many families spread their payments out over the course of the school year or longer.

WHAT ABOUT EMPLOYER MATCHING FUNDS?

Employer Matching Funds are a great way to double your gift! Ask your employer if they match gifts to non-profit organizations.

Can Do! gratefully accepts company match donations from those employers whose business practices and products are consistent with the health and wellbeing of our students.

DOES CAN DO! ENDORSE OR PROVIDE FINANCIAL SUPPORT TO POLITICAL CAMPAIGNS?

The organization shall be nonpartisan in political matters and does not endorse any individuals running for office at the local, state, or federal levels.

Can Do! will, however, support, both in endorsement and financially, legislative measures (as the Board deems necessary and advisable) that seek to improve and/or support the needs of the students attending our schools.
